Herne Hill provides two specialised literacy programs for selected students. The Oral Language Support Program operates with a selection of children from Grades Prep-2. This Program provides additional activities for children who require development in the areas of speaking and listening, grammar and vocabulary. The Reading Support Program involves extra one-to-one support for selected Grade 1 students. Student’s reading is usually fast tracked to higher levels whilst maintaining their comprehension. The emphasis is place on independent use of specific cues to develop the ability to decode words, fluency and writing skills. Both programs are provided by a fully trained teacher in these specific areas of literacy.
